In June 2022 the Darren Phillips Memorial Fund was launched, the fund a partnership between Trefelin BGC and Darren’s family was created to support Mental Health Awareness initiatives in the community.
One of the main aims of the fund was to create a Mental Health and Well-Being Drop in Centre at the Ynys Park to provide a hub for Mental Health awareness initiative in the community.
We are now delighted to announce that following a series of fundraising events and generous donations from individuals, businesses and the community, over £5000 has been raised so far and work is well under way on the drop in centre which we hope will open in early 2023.
Although we are close to completing the drop in centre, the work does not stop there. Darren’s family and the club have identified need to deliver mental health awareness sessions to younger members of our community, and once the drop in centre is open any remaining funds will be used for that purpose.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our efforts to break the mental health stigma, we are determined that Darren’s legacy is a positive one for the community and we look forward to working with his family moving forward.
