Management Team Announced

Richie Ryan names his management team for Trefelin BGC’s first season in JD Cymru South Division.

Richie Ryan has assembled a formidable management team for Trefelins first season in the JD Cymru South Division. Joining manager Richie on the side-lines for the 2020/21 season will be club stalwart and former Port Talbot Town captain Robert Cockings. Alongside two new members of the management team, namely Michael’ Chimpy’ Chaves and former Swans favourite Andrew Mumford.

Michael who signed as a player with Trefelin BGC last season is a veteran of two titles with Goytre United FC and a popular figure around the club. At the same time, Andrew brings a vast amount of experience from his professional playing days with Swansea City and coaching spells with Llanelli AFC and Afan Lido.

Both Michael and Andrew are looking forward to joining Richie’s management team and following signing with the club here’s what they and Robert had to say.

Michael ‘Chimpy’ Chaves

“Huge thank you to Richie for the opportunity, this is a new role for me, and I’m looking forward to contributing in a new capacity as a player/coach.  We have a great squad and a fantastic foundation already built, I’m excited about the upcoming season and building on the success of a great club.  #UPPATREF!”

Andrew Mumford

“I am really looking forward to getting started with an ambitious club which has been incredibly successful over the last few years. What this club has done so far is incredible, and we look to continue this next year in the JD Cymru South Division. “

Robert Cockings

“I am really looking forward to the coming season in the JD Cymru South. The clubs highest league position and a really exciting challenge lies ahead with some formidable, established sides to compete against. What has been achieved both on and off the pitch by everyone at the club over the years has been remarkable and the clubs success is well deserved. Hopefully, we as a management team can continue to pass on our knowledge to the players so we can continue to flourish on the pitch.”

Manager Richie Ryan added:

“Since our promotion to the JD Cymru South was confirmed, I took a lot of time to reflect and think ahead about what we need to be successful next season.

We’ve been saying for years that we’ve got Division 1 (Or championship) players, playing in Division 3. The last thing I was going to do when we’ve got there is bring in 6/7 new players.

I trust these boys implicitly, we’ve lost 5 football matches in 3 years and their winning mentality and attitude is second to none. If we get a chance to improve our squad then we’ll take it but it’s been a pretty relaxed summer, not having to chase players.

The most important thing you’ll do as a manager is prioritise keeping your current squad and I’m delighted we’ve done that.

One area I felt we could make stronger is adding to our management team. Rob Cockings has been amazing since I’ve come to the club, well respected and always gives good advice.

Joining us will be the brilliant Andrew Mumford. A real character who again the boys will respect, played at the highest level and has earned a great reputation coaching in the welsh league.

Also my old mate Michael Chaves., a terrific player who has won trophies by my side, a real popular character around the changing rooms and will no doubt pass his knowledge onto the lads.”

Everyone at the club is looking forward to welcoming Andrew and Michael to the management team. We can wait to get back underway in what I am sure will be a memorable first season in Tier Two of the Welsh football pyramid.
